Day off plan

It was the last game of what has been a pretty underwhelming football season yesterday. However recent form has been good and, although there was nothing to play for, either good or bad, the sun was out and we were up for a party.

The match started early - 12.30 - so we were in the New Barracks for 11 for a few pints (2 1/2 in my case!). Then off to the game. I love a big crowd on a sunny afternoon.

Richard and his younger, much more hirsute brother, James.  He usually plays during the season but comes to matches when he can, especially if he is offered a free ticket!

Our friend Martin as his Owl alter ego.

The Kop and South Stand.

And the North Stand.

It was an amazingly fun game as Wednesday had an unaccountable rush of blood to the head and scored 5 over Norwich!! Wooo hooo! My favourite player, Atdhe Nuhiu (or Big Dave as he is known) scored a hattrick which was just fantastic. He has been much maligned over the years - a "marmite" player for sure but I have always been on the "love him" side so it was great to see him really come good. 14 goals this season in a difficult season.

So that set us in a brilliant mood for a pub crawl (after a sneaky cheeseburger - whoops). We had 6 drinks in 5 pubs but I managed to convert 4 of them into diet cokes or gin and slimlines. Admittedly, the 2 pints of cider to finish off were not great choices - I blame sunny beer gardens. It was a fantastic afternoon though. Fun with pals and family, banter with nodding acquaintances and total strangers. A lovely, summer party atmosphere in the old industrial area of Sheffield. Loved it!

Then the 7.30pm bus home. Rich had a doner kebab while we waited, which looked gorgeous! *I know* But as it was still early, the naan was freshly made, the salad crispy and the meat lean and succulent looking....I was drooling but did not go there. I starved my way home with rumbling belly and grumpy demeanour and then microwaved leftover ratatouille and a bit of cous cous with a sprinkling of patmesan for a virtuous, quick and filling supper.

So I woke to yet another splendid day with no hangover, no real guilt and nothing but anticipation for a great day of golf ahead! Have a good one everyone!!
